College Station had business boom in 2025

College Station had a banner year on the business front in 2025. From retail growth to local businesses expanding, the city experienced significant economic activity last year.

According to Michael Ostrowski, chief development officer for College Station, some of the big-ticket items include:

  • FERA Diagnostics and Biologicals constructing a 51,855-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility;
  • Hunton Trane College Station building two 70,000-square-foot facilities for warehousing and distribution;
  • Statacorp expanding with an additional 19,185-square-foot building; and
  • Fujifilm investing an additional $30 million through a renegotiated agreement
Last year also saw the announcement of two major retailers coming to College Station in 2026. Sprouts will open in the former Bog Lots location on Texas Avenue and Dave and Buster’s will take over the former Conn’s building at Post Oak Mall.

At a meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Brazos Valley Council of Governments in November, Ostrowski attributed the economic growth to concerted efforts by the city and a growing population.

“We look at trying to drive primary jobs to our community,” he said. “We are very big into retail and development opportunities. We support a number of tourism, different events, a lot through sports tourism conventions and other leisure events that we bring to the community. But also our department focuses on quality-of-life initiatives really trying to make College Station a wonderful place to live, work and play.”

He said College Station has a high college student population but is still growing at a steady rate.

“In terms of our community growth, we’ve seen really steady growth for a while now. We’re about 132,000 people. Within our community, about 42% of that population are college-age students, so it makes up a pretty big chunk of our population. But historically, we’ve grown at about 2 to 3% every single year,” he said.

Ostrowski said the city has a workforce of about 70,000 people. “A majority of that is made up by educational services, obviously, with Texas A&M and school districts here,” he said.

He said the city has seen significant growth in the health care industry since 2000.

“That has grown nearly 200% over that time period and has been one of our fastest-growing industry sectors,” he said.
