Quality of Life

The College Station Independent School District has received many state and national awards, producing more than 100 national merit semifinalists in the last decade. Niche.com ranks our school district as the 14th-best in the country with an A+ rating. CSISD has achieved a 95% graduation rate and rates a B (89) in the Texas Student Achievement rankings. About 72% of district graduates are college, career, or military ready, significantly above the state average.

We are home to Texas A&M University, one of the country’s largest public universities. The Aggies are members of the nationally prominent Southeastern Conference, which makes college sports a leading attraction. A&M’s international influence supplies a healthy diversity of race, culture, and nationality that reflects much of the vibrancy, tradition, and spirit that make the community a special and unique place. Texas A&M is also a top research university. It is ranked No. 11 for its Management program and No. 15 for Undergraduate Engineering, which includes Petroleum (No. 1), Biological/Agricultural (No. 5), Civil (No. 10), Aerospace (No. 11), and Industrial/Manufacturing (No. 12). That presence gives College Station one of the nation’s most reliable professional workforces.

In addition to elite public schools and a world-class university, we have a junior college that produces hundreds of graduates each year. The most significant impact of Blinn College’s Bryan campus is the education, training, and skills it provides for residents. Our area employs thousands of former Blinn students.

Our community has three major hospitals and myriad health and emergency clinics.

CHI St. Joseph Health has a 310-bed hospital and a Level II Trauma Center in Bryan and was named one of America’s Best Hospitals in 2020. CHI St. Joseph also recently acquired a large medical center in College Station, where they have moved their labor and delivery services. CHI St. Joseph extends its strong presence throughout the Brazos Valley with smaller clinics that provide medical care to rural communities.

Baylor Scott & White, the most extensive non-profit healthcare system in Texas, operates a 143-bed hospital in the geographic heart of College Station. Along with a modern medical office building, Baylor Scott & White boasts a nationally accredited chest pain center, a Level III trauma center, and receives exceptionally high ratings for outstanding patient experience by Healthgrades.com.

The Physicians Centre is a physician-owned clinic that offers a wide range of experts and specialty services, including surgery, sports medicine, and radiology. Healthgrades.com also gives the Physicians Center high grades for outstanding patient experience.

Recreation & Entertainment

Recreation in College Station begins with our 61 parks, which cover almost 1,400 acres. Many provide tennis and basketball courts, swimming pools, splash pads, hiking trails, dog parks, playgrounds, picnic pavilions, walking/jogging and nature trails. Our parks system also has a competition-quality skate park and a large outdoor amphitheater with a festival site. We recently added a Fun for All Playground, a destination play area for people of all abilities. The city offers a variety of adult, and youth recreational programs, including softball, basketball, volleyball, and kickball leagues, along with summer swim lessons and a competitive youth swim team, to name a few.

Each fall, the roar of 100,000 or more football fans can be heard as the storied Texas Aggies dominate our Saturdays. Whether you’re tailgating with friends or making your way into Kyle Field, no fall weekend is complete without an Aggie game. A&M also excels in other sports with nationally ranked teams and state-of-the-art facilities. Aggie sports provide unparalleled excitement throughout the year, earning almost 30 national championships and 147 conference titles, including 26 since joining the dominant SEC.

A&M recently completed construction on Aggie Park, a beautification project that transformed 20 acres in the heart of campus into enhanced outdoor spaces for study, relaxation, tailgating, entertainment, and recreation for students and visitors alike.
You will find museums, movie theaters, libraries, and family entertainment centers throughout our community, as well as unique outdoor gathering places to meet friends and family. Discover all the marvelous entertainment options Aggieland has to offer and enjoy a visit packed with activities and fun for the entire family.

College Station has multiple public transportation options and a regional airport with commercial and general aviation services. We also have a multi-city bus system and popular ride-hailing services. A&M’s robust bus system is an easy way to get around for students and staff. When combined, the two bus systems give College Station the 7th-largest transit system in Texas and the most number of rides per person in the state.

The City of College Station was the first agency in Texas to install Automatic Traffic Signal Performance Measure software to monitor, evaluate, and improve traffic, especially during times of high movement or congestion. The system reduces the overall drive time, regardless of what events are happening. We are located about 20 minutes from the proposed High-Speed Rail midpoint station in Roans Prairie. The rail will connect Houston and Dallas, and the nearby stop will allow College Station residents and businesses to quickly and easily access the larger markets.

Easterwood Airport offers global air service that delivers passengers to countless destinations around the world. Transportation Security Administration pre-checking is available, and security wait times are under 15 minutes. The airport is a mere eight minutes from Kyle Field, home of the Fightin’ Texas Aggies. Ample on-site parking means you’re able to park just steps away from your gate. The airport is a short drive from any part of town, which significantly reduces travel time. The general aviation side of the airport has access to the 7,000-foot runway. It offers luxuries such as secured parking, catering services, ramp side vehicle access, hangar space, linen and dishwashing service, and more. The new 30,000 square-foot hangar and 8,000-square-foot terminal provide the comforts you expected from the best in private aviation.
